Don’t Compare BEHINDS!
One summer at pom camp, I suddenly became aware of how BEHIND we were.
Not only were our team uniforms horribly out of fashion, even our choreography was outdated.
I remember watching squads from big city schools perform and thinking “oh god.... we look like a bunch of country bumpkins....”
The funny thing was.... I somehow had NO CLUE how “BEHIND” we were until we were in a gym with tons of other squads to compare ourselves to.
Fast forward to 2012, and I was obsessed with starting a YouTube channel for my practice.
Most people thought my obsession was a bit unwarranted.
But I was convinced that businesses—even local businesses—were going to HAVE to build their online presences to survive.
In 2012 with no YouTube channel, I felt so behind.
And I was comparing my lack of YouTube videos only to my own race....
I thought I should have started that channel years before and I was soooooo BEHIND.
A short time later, in 2015, I accidentally discovered this live streaming app called Periscope.
You could share a live broadcast and anyone anywhere could watch.
And I felt my view of the world change on a dime.
This time, I wasn’t going to be BEHIND.
I was gonna be ahead of the trend.
One thing lead to another, and all that live streaming started an online business.
Something that’s beyond my wildest dreams.
Today we are nearly 200 women in chiropractic strong.
I can’t imagine how this ever would’ve happened if I hadn’t taken those first, tiny steps.
Steps that people judged me for.
Steps my husband didn’t understand.
Steps that I had no clue where they were leading me to.
We have a rule in Aligned Women: Don’t compare.
You’re only measure is “am I better today than I was yesterday?”
If I had let comparison stop me from taking action on what the universe was nudging me toward,
I really don’t know if I’d be here now.
Today I could hang my head as I compare myself to people who started their brands in 2009, 2010, 2011...
And think “ughhhhhh I’m so behind. I’ll NEVER catch up.”
Or, I can start where I am now...
Put one foot in front of the other...
One step at a time...
Put blinders on so that I can’t look sideways...
Stay in my own lane...
And just see where the journey takes me...
Don’t compare BEHINDS.
